The kids have gotten used to it.
On a recent hike, Silas and Rosemary climbed high up the hill in Inwood Hill Park. I took this picture when they turned to look down at the park, and, beyond it, our neighborhood.
He is not on an ice floe. When the tide goes out, it leaves behind -- balancing on the rocks at water's edge -- beautiful sheets of ice.
Silas clambers down to smash them.
At the end of each day, mittens and hats cook atop the radiator.
